About Me

Hello! I’m Oscar.

I run Show Works Ltd, a company that supports the technical side of live events – the lighting, sound, video and infrastructure that make shows happen. From theatre productions to large immersive installations, my job is usually somewhere between designing systems, solving technical problems, and making sure lots of complicated moving parts all work together when the audience walks in the room.

Alongside Show Works, I also created Backstage Radio — a radio station for the people who work behind the scenes in theatre, events, and live production. It started as a small idea to give our industry a place of its own, and gradually grew into a full station with presenters, shows and a fair amount of technology quietly running in the background to keep it all on air.

I’ve always been fascinated by how things work, especially where technology meets the real world. Live events are a perfect playground for that curiosity – hundreds of devices, networks, control systems and logistics all needing to work together perfectly for a few hours at a time.

Outside of the day-to-day projects, I spend a lot of time building things that make work easier (or just satisfy my curiosity). That might be writing software to manage operations, experimenting with broadcast automation, building renewable energy systems, or designing infrastructure to support the projects we run.

For example, I’ve built an off-grid solar system to power Show Works HQ, developed automation systems that turn industry news feeds into radio broadcasts, and written various bits of software to simplify the logistics behind live events.

Most of these projects start with the sentence:
“This would be useful…”

They usually end up becoming slightly over-engineered experiments that somehow turn into real tools.

Outside of work, I’m a big music fan – particularly modern country, which is why my radio show Country Load Out exists. I also enjoy DIY projects, experimenting with new technology, and keeping tropical fish.

At the heart of everything I do is simple curiosity: figuring out how things work, building systems that make complicated ideas simpler, and occasionally creating projects that grow far bigger than originally intended.
